THE Zion Christian Church (ZCC) led by Dr Nehemiah Mutendi says Dr Kuda Tagwirei’s appointment to the Senate of the Republic of Zimbabwe was fitting recognition of a life distinguished by enterprises, leadership, philanthropy and a deep commitment to the advancement of others.

Dr Tagwirei and nine prominent political figures were sworn in as Senators yesterday following their nomination by President Emmerson Mnangagwa under Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3 (CAA3).

The new Senators took their oaths of office before Parliament Clerk Kennedy Chokuda at the New Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.

In a congratulatory message on Wednesday, ZCC said it confident Dr Tagwirei would have a distinguished and impactful tenure in the senate.

“From the world of business to communities, you have demonstrated that true leadership is not measured only by what one achieves, but by the opportunities one crease, the lives one touches and the legacy one leaves behind,” said ZCC.

Tagwirei is a prominent Zimbabwean businessman and active philanthropist who has directed millions of dollars toward healthcare, education, and community development.

The appointments come after the enactment of CAA3, which introduced changes to the composition and appointment of members of parliament.

The new Senators are expected to assume their legislative duties following the completion of the requisite parliamentary procedures.

Under CAA3, the executive framework for legislative appointments was expanded to allow direct presidential nominations to Parliament.

“As you take on this new responsibility, may your experience, vision and passion for Zimbabwe continue to inspire and contribute to economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, employment for our people. May God grant you wisdom courage and discernment as you serve our nation” ZCC said.

CAA 3 represents a significant shift in the country’s legislative composition, permitting the executive to bypass traditional electoral and party-list systems to appoint non-constituency Senators.
