Zimbabwe Celebrates World Paramedics Day at Harare Town House
HARARE — The capital city came alive with the sound of sirens and a spirit of celebration today as Zimbabwe joined the rest of the globe to mark World Paramedics Day.
Hosted at the iconic Harare Council Town House, the event served as a vital platform to recognise and honour the invaluable, often life-saving contributions of first responders who work tirelessly on the front lines of medical emergencies.
A Unified Front in Emergency Care
The commemorations brought together a diverse contingent of the country’s emergency medical services. Private and public operators stood side-by-side, showcasing a collaborative commitment to strengthening Zimbabwe’s pre-hospital care network.
Among the prominent participants were Highway Emergency Services (HEMS), alongside various other local municipal and private ambulance service providers.
HEMS Paramedics Take Centre Stage
A major highlight of the day was an interactive exhibition by the HEMS paramedic team. To give the public and officials a firsthand look into the high-pressure world of emergency medicine, HEMS personnel executed live demonstrations simulating real-life crisis scenarios.
From rapid extrication techniques to advanced life support interventions, the paramedics demonstrated the precision, speed, and deep expertise required to stabilise patients during the critical “golden hour.”
“Our job is about split-second decisions,” said one of the demonstrating paramedics. “Being able to show the public the level of training and dedication that goes into every call is incredibly rewarding. Today isn’t just a celebration; it’s a reminder of why we do what we do.”

The event concluded with a strong call to action for continued investment in emergency medical infrastructure, training, and equipment across Zimbabwe. As the sirens quieted down at the Town House, the message of the day remained clear: paramedics are the vital bridge between a crisis and survival, and their dedication remains a cornerstone of the nation’s healthcare system.
