The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has suspended the operating licence of all omnibuses owned by transport operator Blessing Matimbe following a fatal road accident that killed three people and injured ten others.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona announced the suspension in a statement issued after investigations into the crash that occurred on June 1, 2026, at the intersection of Willowvale Road and Nyandoro Road.
According to the ministry, investigations established that the omnibus involved in the accident, registration number AGL0921, was operating without a valid Certificate of Fitness, a requirement under the Road Motor Transportation Act.
Authorities also found that the vehicle lacked a valid route permit.
The ministry further stated that the driver of the omnibus had failed to comply with requirements set out under the Road Traffic Act and Statutory Instrument 168 of 2006.
“These violations constitute a serious breach of the terms and conditions attached to the operator’s licence,” Mhona said.
Acting under provisions of the Road Motor Transportation Act, the Commissioner of Road Motor Transportation ordered the immediate suspension of all omnibuses belonging to Blessing Matimbe on routes authorised by the ministry.
The suspension will remain in effect until the operator complies with the country’s transport and safety regulations, according to the ministry.
Minister Mhona said the government would continue enforcing road safety laws and warned transport operators against violating licensing and safety requirements.
“The safety and security of the commuting public should not be compromised,” he said, adding that operators who fail to meet statutory obligations and safety standards risk suspension or cancellation of their licences.
The ministry also urged traffic law enforcement agencies to intensify compliance checks to ensure adherence to road traffic laws and improve the safety of road users.
The crash has renewed concerns over compliance with public transport regulations and road safety standards in Zimbabwe’s commuter transport sector.
