    Next-generation financial services platform Mukuru has extended its partnership with Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) until December 2027, reaffirming its support for the national team as the country prepares to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup with South Africa and Namibia.

    Under the renewed agreement, Mukuru will continue as the front-of-jersey sponsor of the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s National Cricket Team across all international formats, building on a partnership that began in 2024.

    The extension comes as Zimbabwe intensifies preparations to host cricket’s flagship tournament in 2027, with Mukuru describing the sponsorship as part of its long-term commitment to Zimbabwean sport and community development.

    Mukuru spokesperson Kevin Nyakotyo said the partnership goes beyond brand visibility, reflecting the company’s investment in the country’s sporting future.

    “This renewal is about more than sponsorship visibility. It is about investing in a partnership that brings communities together, celebrates Zimbabwean excellence and creates meaningful connections with fans,” Nyakotyo said.

    He said the road to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup presents an opportunity to inspire young cricketers, strengthen fan engagement and unite Zimbabweans both at home and across the diaspora.

    “As Zimbabwe prepares to co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, we are excited to continue working alongside Zimbabwe Cricket. The road to the World Cup presents a unique opportunity to inspire the next generation of cricketers, deepen fan engagement and strengthen the bond between Zimbabweans at home and across the diaspora,” he said.

    Nyakotyo noted that Zimbabwe has been central to Mukuru’s growth for more than two decades, adding that the renewed partnership demonstrates the company’s confidence in the country’s future.

    “Cricket has a unique ability to unite people across borders, aligning perfectly with Mukuru’s purpose of connecting communities through trusted financial services,” he said.

    Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni welcomed the extension, describing it as a significant endorsement of the sport’s growth trajectory ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

    “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Mukuru, a proudly African brand that shares Zimbabwe Cricket’s vision for growth, excellence and meaningful community impact,” Makoni said.

    “Their continued support comes at a defining moment for Zimbabwean cricket as we build towards hosting the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027.”

    Makoni said the renewed sponsorship would enable Zimbabwe Cricket to continue investing in the development of the game while enhancing the experience for supporters.

    “This renewed commitment gives us confidence to continue investing in the game, strengthening our national teams and creating memorable experiences for our supporters, while showcasing Zimbabwe on one of cricket’s biggest stages,” he said.

    Zimbabwe will co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia, marking the country’s return as a host of the tournament for the first time since 2003. The extended Mukuru partnership is expected to provide continuity and commercial support as Zimbabwe Cricket prepares for the global showcase.

    The 28-year-old forward was officially presented at Chahwanda Stadium on Thursday, merely a week after playing a pivotal role in Simba SC’s Tanzanian league championship victory.

    The Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has fined Hardrock FC and Dynamos FC after finding both clubs guilty of causing the abandonment of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture played at Chahwanda Stadium on May 24.

    In a judgment released on Wednesday, the committee ruled that both clubs were responsible for crowd trouble, pitch invasion, acts of violence, improper conduct and disrupting the normal proceedings of the match.

    Dynamos were additionally found guilty of malicious damage to the perimeter fence at Chahwanda Stadium, while Hardrock, as the home club, was cited for failing to provide adequate security.

    Hardrock FC was fined US$10,000, with US$2,000 of the amount suspended for the remainder of the season on condition that the club does not commit a similar offence. The club was also ordered to play one home match behind closed doors and submit a revised Match Security Management Plan to the PSL chief executive officer within 30 days.

    Dynamos FC received a US$10,000 fine and was directed to submit a formal crowd management and stewarding plan to the league within 30 days. The Harare giants were also ordered to provide written reports after each remaining away fixture this season detailing measures taken to manage travelling supporters.

    The disciplinary committee further ruled that the remaining minutes of the abandoned Matchday 14 encounter between the two clubs will be completed behind closed doors at a neutral venue under PSL protocols.

    In a separate ruling, Hardrock FC chief executive officer Kudzanai Hove was found guilty of disorderly conduct, pitch invasion and violent behaviour. He was suspended from all football-related activities for the remainder of the 2026 season and fined US$5,000.

    The abandoned match at Chahwanda Stadium had been marred by crowd disturbances that forced officials to halt proceedings before the game could be completed.

    The PSL said the sanctions were intended to uphold discipline, improve match security and ensure the safety of players, officials and supporters for the remainder of the season.
