The police in Victoria Falls made a huge drug bust on Thursday when they arrested a woman with a huge stash of mbanje worth well over ZWL $48 million.
49-year-old Patricia Ncube from Victorias Falls’s Mkhosana suburb was caught red-handed with the drugs after the police launched a raid at her house.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics received information that Ncube was in posession of huge quantities of dangerous drugs. The detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics squad teamed up with the Canine Unit and conducted a raid at Ncube’s house.
Upon searching the house, the detectives discovered the mbanje which was packed in 50-kilogram bags. The police recovered 14 of the 50-kilogram bags which were filled with the drug. The drugs had a total weight of 481 kilograms and a street value of ZWL $48 100 000.00.
Ncube is expected to appear in court soon to answer for possessing the dangerous drug.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi thanked the public for supplying the police with information about criminals in their neighbourhoods. He also warned drug dealers that law enforcement officials are on the lookout and would deal with them.
In a statement, the Assistant Commissioner said,
We applaud the general public for supplying information on criminal activities to the Police. In the same vein drug peddlers will be accounted for and the law will take its course.
