The young Parliamentarians are rejecting the Zimsec ‘s announced Examination fees for this year. The examination fees have been raised by 1200%, O level has been raised from 15rtgs to 190rtgs and 220rtgs for Science subjects and ‘A’ level from 26rtgs to 351rtgs.
An interview with some junior Parliamentarians reveals that they are so concerned saying some of the disadvantaged pupils will not write exams due to a lack of funds. And this is an infringement on their rights to Education.
A junior member of parliament Tinashe Ngirandi who is also Jnr Minister of Youth Sports Arts & Recreation said Zimsec should have consulted the Junior parliament before announcing to the public he said:
Yesterday (Tuesday) as the Junior Parliament of Zimbabwe, we petitioned the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to reduce examination fees that were set by Zimsec because they are unreasonable and beyond the reach of many. The new structure of exam fees is an infringement on the Zimbabweans’ right to education,”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education said they are still waiting for the petition from Junior parliamentarians.
