The City of Harare Fire Brigade has contained and extinguished a fire that broke out this morning at Regal Star Building along George Silundika Avenue, between First Street and Sam Nujoma Street.
The Fire Brigade responded swiftly to an emergency call and managed to isolate the blaze to the 9th floor of the building before extinguishing it within minutes.
Had it not been contained by the Fire Brigade, the fire could have gutted the entire building and spread to nearby structures.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established. The Fire Brigade is still gathering information and conducting investigations.
Onlookers and tenants from the affected building commended the Fire Brigade for its swift response and efficiency in handling the incident.
City of Harare Corporate Communications Manager, Mr. Stanley Gama, praised the Fire Brigade for their excellent work whenever they are called to duty.
“Our Fire Brigade team has proved time and again that they are the best of the best. I have attended many fire incidents and it’s always the same story – they respond to fires on time and they execute their job professionally.
“The way they put out this fire at Regal Star House was amazing. People who had gathered started cheering them on. These are the living heroes and heroines of our time.
“I would like to thank the fire officers for a job well done. Even His Worship the Mayor, Cllr. Jacob Mafume, phoned me while the team was fighting the fire. He assured the firemen that the City of Harare had faith in them to deal with the situation, as they have always done before.
“Well done, Chief Fire Officer Mr. Lovemore Mafukidze, and your entire team,” said Mr. Gama.
