The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of four men following violent disturbances that disrupted the Premier Soccer League clash between Hardrock FC and Dynamos FC at Chahwanda Stadium on 24 May 2026.
Those arrested have been identified as Shingirai Chivavare (34), Matthias Taderera (43), Tavakuda Nyoni (46), and Emmanuel Dube (50).
Police said chaos erupted after supporters from the rival teams began hurling objects at one another before invading the pitch and engaging in violent clashes. The disorder forced officials to abandon the match in the 80th minute.
Seven fans sustained injuries during the unrest and were rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition. Infrastructure at the stadium, including barricades and turnstiles, was also vandalised.
Authorities are further probing reports that close to 5,000 supporters were locked out when the match kicked off. Some fans allegedly forced entry into the stadium, causing additional damage to property.
Police have since called on football authorities to improve crowd management by introducing advance ticket sales and strictly observing stadium capacity regulations to avoid similar incidents in the future.
